8th Grade Promotion 2024 



Each year, Orinda Intermediate School celebrates the promotion of our 8th-grade students with an 8th Grade End of Year Field Trip, Promotion Ceremony, Promotion Party, and Farewell Breakfast. This year’s festivities will commence with a Field Trip to Boomers Park in Livermore on Wednesday, May 29th. The Promotion Ceremony and Party will take place the following day on Thursday, May 30th followed by a Farewell Breakfast in the morning on Friday, May 31st. 

Parents, friends, and family are all welcome and invited to attend the Promotion Ceremony. The students will be bussed to and from Boomers on Wednesday, and on Thursday the 8th Graders are invited to head over to the Celebration Party immediately following the Ceremony. The day outing and Celebration Party are exclusive to the 8th Graders. Students from other grade levels, friends and family may not attend. If you are a parent who is interested in volunteering to chaperone the Field Trip on Wednesday or the Promotion Party after the ceremony on Thursday, you may sign up to do so below.  

There is no cost to attend the Promotion Ceremony or the Farewell Breakfast. Contributions are requested for students attending the Promotion Party and the 8th Grade Field Trip. Students must register through the Bulldog Store to attend Promotional activities, including the ceremony. All 8th graders are welcome and encouraged to attend all Promotion-related activities.




It is hard to believe but in just under three months our 8th graders will be graduating from OIS!  To mark this milestone, we are planning some fun events for our 8th Grade Students.  Please see below for further details and action items.


March, 2024 - Registration opens for the 8th Grade Field Trip, Promotion Ceremony, and Party HERE The cost for this year’s Promotion activities is $175 per student and includes the Field Trip to Boomers, the Promotion Party, and the Farewell Breakfast. There is no cost to attend the ceremony or the breakfast.


Wednesday, May 29th - Fun 8th Grade Field Trip to BOOMERS! in Livermore




  • All 8th Graders will depart on buses from OIS at 10 am and return by 4 pm. While chaperones will be on hand, your student is free to enjoy their day with friends at the park!  They will have four hours of unlimited use of the entire venue- laser tag, bumper boats, go-karts, mini-golf, and an arcade. Lunch (ONE large slice of pizza and a drink) will be provided. Please plan to send money for snacks and any other miscellaneous items. Further details will be provided as we get closer.

Thursday, May 30th, 2024 – Promotion Ceremony and Party (Early Dismissal at 1:05 pm)

  • Promotion Ceremony – 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm – The ceremony will take place on the blacktop near the Isola Gym.  A Promotion rehearsal will take place on this day from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. 

    • Promotion Dress Code: Although this is not a formal event, students are encouraged to dress for the occasion! Please make sure your 8th grader attends.   Suggested attire is a collared shirt, sport coat, slacks, dresses, skirts, and pantsuits. Please take care when selecting high-heeled shoes as students will be walking up and down stairs.

  • Promotion Party – 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm - The party for the graduates only (and volunteer chaperones) takes place immediately following the ceremony in the MPR and is sure to be an evening your graduate will not want to miss!

Friday, May 31st, 2024- Farewell Breakfast (Bring Your Yearbook!)

  • All 8th-grade students are to attend the first period of the day to take attendance and will walk together to the Farewell Breakfast to be held at the lunch tables outside the Bow Wow Chow. Continental Breakfast will be served, and students can hang out, sign yearbooks, and reminisce about their time at OIS! There is no charge for students to attend. 




  • A $175 contribution is requested for each student who plans to participate in the Promotion Activities (Field Trip and Party). Please use the link below to make your contribution. There is no charge to attend the Promotion Ceremony or the Farewell Breakfast. Contributions are requested for students attending the other two events. These donations will help pay for the party DJ, entertainment, dinner, Boomers admission, buses to Boomers, breakfast and much more!

  • 2024 Promotion Slideshow - WE NEED YOUR PHOTOS! A slideshow will be shown at the party, and we need your submissions! We need 2-3 photos of your child from vacations, sporting events, or other activities for a slideshow.  Upload your photos here! The deadline for submissions is March 31st.




School rules regarding student behavior apply to ALL events.  A copy of the school rules is available online in the OIS STUDENT HANDBOOK. Students should treat each other and parent volunteers with respect.

The OIS Promotion Slideshow Details

  • The OIS Promotion Slideshow will be distributed via link to 8th grade parents and shown to students at the post promotion party.
  • Please upload no more than 3 photos from your student's time at OIS.
  • Photos can be from school events, social events, extracurricular activities, school or family trips, or any other memorable moments from the last 3 years.
  • Upload your chosen photos to dropbox and change the filename to use the following naming convention:
